Josh Castro

Coach Profile

Josh Castro is a Deltona, Florida native and a proud product of the Central Florida basketball community. He attended Trinity Christian Academy during middle school before continuing his high school career at DeLand High School and Deltona High School.

Josh earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Florida. He currently resides in Deltona with his mother and younger brother, Joseph. His older brother, JJ, competed at the NCAA Division III level.

Basketball has always been a major part of Josh’s life. His father, Coach Jorge Castro, is a well-known youth basketball coach in the Orlando area and played an important role in Josh’s early development and love for the game.

AAU

Josh began his AAU career with Florida Static, playing for his father until the completion of eighth grade.

Beginning in ninth grade, Josh joined TNBA South, TNBA’s Orlando-based AAU program. He competed with TNBA South throughout the remainder of his high school career under coaches Will Benner, Christopher Flash, and Antonio Santana.

School Teams

Josh began his school basketball career at Trinity Christian Academy, where he was the team’s leading point guard in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. He was also the team’s leading scorer in both seventh and eighth grade.

Josh attended DeLand High School during his freshman and sophomore years, competing at the JV level. He later transferred to Deltona High School for financial reasons and graduated with the Class of 2019.

After receiving an opportunity to play at the Division III level, Josh ultimately chose to attend the University of South Florida to pursue his academic goals.

TNBA Career

Josh began working with The National Basketball Academy immediately after graduating high school in 2019.

Since joining TNBA, Josh has demonstrated a strong commitment to learning, teaching, and developing his understanding of the game. Throughout his time as both a player and coach, he has had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside several respected TNBA coaches, including Jack Lutzeier, Ryan Kittleson, Andrew Teal, and Jorge Castro.

Josh’s favorite part of basketball is understanding how individuals can come together as a team. He believes in finding ways to help others improve and creating an environment where everyone can experience growth.

His playing background, combined with his continued study of the game and experience within TNBA, has helped shape his approach as a coach and mentor.
